Republicans in Abraham Lincoln’s day were Liberals. Conservatives were Democrats, including the Southern White Slave Owners. It wasn’t that long ago that people switched parties and their platforms changed to what they are today.
It is more accurate to say: Liberals abolished slavery, liberals gave women (and black men & women) the right to vote, Liberals gave citizenship to former slaves w/14th Amendment (Trump wants to abolish that amendment).
It is the Republican party that has the KKK, neo-nazis and white nationalists and they support Donald Trump– so I guess conservatives haven’t changed all that much.
